The capital region is an at risk area to tsunami hazards from a number of potential sources including the Cascadia Subduction Zone, the Alaska-Aleutian Subduction Zone and local shallow crustal faults. With this in mind, the capital region and its project partners recognized the need for detailed inundation mapping from a tsunami event in the capital region. This recognition created support from all partners in creating the Capital Region Coastal Flood Inundation Mapping Project.
The Tsunami Information Portal hosts information and maps that will help residents and visitors explore and identify the capital region's hazards and risks of a tsunami. The interactive Regional Tsunami Map highlights areas at risk of a tsunami. Explore the map, and investigate how the people and places in your community may be affected by a tsunami event.
